Overview

Mr. Home Garage Door Inventory Management System (Feb 2019 – May 2019) — Role: Lead Developer. Mr. Home Garage Door, a leading provider of garage door solutions, recognized the need to overhaul its inventory system to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.

Challenge: Mr. Home Garage Door faced several challenges with its existing inventory management practices: • Inaccurate Inventory Tracking: Manual tracking led to discrepancies in inventory levels, resulting in overstocking or stockouts. • Inefficient Order Processing: Slow and error-prone order processing delayed fulfillment times, impacting customer satisfaction. • Lack of Real-Time Data: The absence of real-time inventory insights hindered decision-making and operational agility.

Solution: A custom Inventory Management System was developed using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js) with the following features: • Automated Inventory Tracking: Automates tracking of inventory levels, movements, and adjustments — ensuring accuracy and reducing manual errors. • Streamlined Order Management: Integrating order processing with inventory management for efficient order entry, processing, and fulfillment. • Real-Time Reporting and Analytics: Real-time insights into inventory levels, sales trends, and order statuses enabling informed decision-making. • Supplier and Purchase Order Management: Facilitates direct communication with suppliers for restocking, tracking purchase orders, and managing supplier information. • Customizable Alerts: Custom alerts for low stock levels, pending orders, and other critical inventory events to prevent stockouts and overstocking.

Implementation: The development process involved close collaboration with Mr. Home Garage Door stakeholders to ensure the system met all operational requirements. Agile methodology was adopted to allow for flexibility and iterative feedback, resulting in a tailored solution aligned with the company's workflows.

Technologies Used: • Frontend: React.js, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript • Backend: Node.js, Express.js • Database: MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB • Cloud Infrastructure: AWS Lambda, Amazon EC2

Results: • Increased Operational Efficiency: Automated tracking and streamlined processes reduced manual labor and minimized errors. • Enhanced Customer Satisfaction: Improved order accuracy and faster fulfillment times led to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty. • Informed Decision-Making: Real-time data and analytics empowered the management team to make strategic decisions regarding inventory levels, sales strategies, and procurement. • Cost Reduction: Better inventory accuracy and efficiency led to significant reductions in holding costs and losses due to stockouts or overstocking.
